GP rotation

My GP (whom i shall not name) is a fun-loving, crazy-ass joke-busting one hell of a GP who I adore and admire for what he has achieved and what he strives to: Life Balance. Its all about life balance. For the first two weeks of the rotation, he drilled into us that life is important and that having a social life and other hobbies/interests are important to pursue and vital to our well-being. His job satisfaction is moderate to low and that's why he works 4 days a week and tries to get a 3 month holiday every year. If not, he says he gets exhausted and burnt out from seeing 40 patients a day and for what. I guess that's one GP's point of view after working for 10+ years. And that's why he's taking archeology courses, doing acting gigs and is a hard-core cricket fan. Yea, i can probably go on and on about him. He's not perfect of course, everyone has flaws but his patients love him and keep coming back to him.

Some of the interesting i saw today would be:
- Chlamydia in pregnancy.
- Raised alpha-feto protein which increases in HCC but the lady is also preggers and the other doc said that could raise the alpha-feto protein.
- A wedge cut for an ingrown toe nail for which i did a digital block (with lignocaine only, not adrenaline..apparently you don't use the combo for fingers, toes, nose and genitals). My doctor cut out the toe nail but it was bleeding like crazy afterwards.
- Tight pulse pressure (i actually measured his blood pressure so it might have been wrong, oopsie) which usually indicate aortic stenosis and therefore has to be ruled out. Symptoms of aortic stenosis includes syncope, angina, dyspnoea.
- Alopecia ariata in an old almost bald bloke. Patches of no hair on his scalp. This usually comes away after a while.
