Renal team

I'm currently in week 1 of renal specialty and i've been missing my geriatric team heaps. I loved being at Bunya ward where the consultant, registrar and resident were very nice. Esp the resident since i hang around and help him a bit. He's very friendly and gave me adivce;

-How to do admissions ie Look at the previous notes to give you an idea of what patient has and you've done 50% of the job already.

-To be organised in everything, checking lab results & others before ward rounds and keeping them on hand for the consultant.

-Making your own to-do list which includes bed no, pt name & urn, background and tasks.

-Be confident in all you do. Heh. He's very confident and i really like watching him display that to all members of the staff and patients.

-Giving updates on patients to registrar/consultant while going on the ward rounds.

-Preparing discharge summaries well ahead whenever free so that when the person is actually discharged there's only the plan left to write. So with discharge summaries, the first para on patient's admission and the provisional diagnosis, second para on what went on in hospital and third on what the plan is for the patient. Plus, medications patient is discharged on.

I really miss my ex-resident. I'm guessing i miss my geri team more because i've been feeling lost with the renal team as there are 6 consultants, many registrars and a couple of residents. I've been having clinics and was told to just join whomever was there. No more 1 registrar and 1 resident. There's also two teams and this week i'm with team pink and the next with team yellow. I'm sure there's a silver lining beneath every cloud. I just have to stick with it and persist for a few more weeks.
